Grand Slam Duplicate Bridge Club

   

Michael S. Blaher is a professional bridge player and has been directing duplicate bridge games for over 25 years.  He began his bridge career in the Washington, D.C. area in 1981 while serving as an attorney and administrative law judge for the District of Columbia Government.  During that period of nearly ten years, he became a life master and a certified club director and he directed and the Wheaton Bridge Club.  He also served on the board of director’s of The Washington Bridge League (ACBL Unit 147) for four years.  Upon moving back to the Orlando area, where he grew up, Michael continued to play bridge at night and on weekends, when time permitted, while he practiced law for the Legal Aid Society for four years and in a solo law practice for six years.  After twenty years of practicing law, he turned his attention to playing and teaching bridge full-time, a profession he enjoys much more.  He has been the owner of the Grand Slam DBC since 2005 after directing games for the previous owners for several years.

In addition to playing and directing bridge games, Michael has been a bridge teacher for 24 years, teaching all levels of the game from basic beginning bridge for those who have never played before to intermediate and advanced courses the more experienced players.  He currently teaches classes, gives lessons to small private groups at players’ homes, and gives individual playing lessons at duplicate games.

Michael is considered one of the leading bridge players, teachers, and directors in Central Florida.

He currently is divorced and has no children, but has two nephews of whom he is very proud.
